Version 2.6 automatically checks for updates the first time it’s run each day. It’s a feature I should’ve added long before now, but it’s here now. The pop up telling you about the update won’t interfere with gameplay in any way. Manually checking for updates is still supported.

Version 2.5.1 uses a Dictionary action to store the dice imagery instead of nested Ifs. This more efficient technique was suggested by @robric18, who I literally copy-and-pasted this change from. Great idea! The shortcut has around 50 fewer actions because of this, and is a tad faster. On older devices, this update might make performance noticeably better, but that’s just speculation on my part.

iOS 14 is now available to the public. iOS 14 is required to run this shortcut.

Version 2.5 introduces new imagery to accompany your dice roll. It shows a beautiful, custom-designed die I created. It accurately represents the number you rolled, as well.

I spent a ton of time designing this icon, like, hours and hours. Like almost every piece of iconography I’ve ever made, this icon was made by manipulating Apple’s official App Icon shape (a squircle). The smooth corner of each side of this die was created by applying an “inner” border to the squircle, until it was square enough, while maintaining the seamless look of a squircle. Then I basically just distorted and arranged it, played with the light, and put numbers on it. I think it looks great, but tbh you can’t really see the level of detail I put into it. Just rest assured knowing its pretty. Lol.

Pictionary 2.4 is the fastest version yet in most areas. That’s largely because I tediously replaced all the Toolbox Pro “global variables” with .txt files in iCloud. The main menu of Pictionary will now launch nearly instantly. The menu does still look a bit ugly in iOS 13, though.

Speaking of iOS 13, I’ll be dropping iOS 13 support immediately following the release of iOS 14. The same day. Why? I’ve already had to hold back a nifty new feature from this release because it doesn’t work on iOS 13 at all, and I won’t have an iOS 13 device to test on anymore.

Those of you already on iOS 14 will see the drawing pad in true-black now! Those on iOS 13 will see dark gray.

This version of Pictionary is also the first to use [Eᴍʙᴇᴅ-ᴀ-Uᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ]. That’s mainly why the action count has shot up so much, by the way. I’ve done this because I’d like to remove Toolbox Pro entirely, so you can get Pictionary up and running on a friend’s device as easily as possible.
Unfortunately, I haven’t found a suitable replacement for Preview, as I want to display large-font text and at least one button, plus a cancel option, to ask if the drawing board should be used.

Please let me know if anything isn’t working as expected, especially if its on iOS 13 and you’re not planning to update right away. I want to leave you guys with a working version, and if this isn’t it, someone’s gotta tell me, because both my devices are on the beta. If there’s demand, I might even release a “legacy” version that brings back the nice menu for iOS 13 users, to be released at the same time as my iOS 14 update. Let me know if you’d like to see that.

Version 2.3 (iOS 13 & 14 compatible) changes the way Pictionary handles its dictionary of words — now, you will see the same words far less frequently, even over multiple games. In fact, the shortcut will now pick every other word it has available before repeating even one time. As a result, the shortcut also runs faster (sometimes a lot faster), and it no longer needs the “Run Shortcut’ permission.

Version 2.3 also brings back the line in the main menu that lists your score.

Your clipboard won’t be accessed as frequently. Now it is only used to determine if the drawing pad should be opened or not. I’m going to try to phase out the use of the clipboard by this shortcut entirely soon.

Besides that, I’ve cleaned up a few other little things. I already have a few more updates to the game planned, so look forward to that! If there are any changes you’d like to see, please let me know! And if anything ever stops working correctly, tell me that too! :)

iOS 14
This version maintains iOS 13 support, and now adds support for iOS 14 as well!
The new features this time are...
- Dark Mode drawing pad is now available to all users! It’s not true black for now, though. When iOS 14 is released publicly, I’ll update to a true black version that’s only compatible with iOS 14.
- The drawing pad should fill more of the screen now. On iPhones, it won’t fill perfectly, but it should be closer than before. I haven’t tried it on smaller iPhones, though, so let me know if those don’t look good. Oh, and the drawing pad loads faster, too.
- I finally found out that “Base64 Encode” isn’t as complicated as it sounds. As a result, there are new sound effects! If you don’t like them, there’s a new Settings page that let’s you toggle them. (P.S. the emoji next to “Toggle Sound Effects” always reflects the current setting.)
- Toolbox Pro Premium features are no longer used at all, so the shortcut no longer asks new users if they have it.

Please, please, please send me feedback if any feature isn’t working as expected on any device & software version. As far as I know everything else is working, and I can only fix it if someone tells me.

This is a re-release of version 2.1 that fixes a few small problems. First, the version number was still listed as “2.0” inside the updater, which would tell you that there was an update when their wasn’t. Also there was a typo where I wrote “Light Mode” instead of “Dark Mode”. Fixed that.

This release also fixes a bug where it was unable to re-run itself to draw a new word, because it lost the specified shortcut it was supposed to run.

On iOS 14 betas lately, the game has been basically unplayable because all the toolbox pro tools have been showing while they run. I don’t know how it got that way, but I fixed it. But the whole shortcut crashes on my beta device anyway, though, so I don’t know if iOS 14 users can play at all... Hopefully it’ll be in working order soon.

P.S. I’m working to bring Dark Mode support to everyone starting with iOS 14, using the new “Get Device Details: Current Appearance” action. Please let me know if there are other changes you’d like to see!

This update brings the drawing pad to those of you who don’t have Toolbox Pro’s Premium tools. However, that version of the drawing pad doesn’t support Dark Mode.
Premium users will still have Dark Mode, so don’t worry.
This update introduces a one-time question asking you if you have Toolbox Pro’s Premium tools, in order to add the drawing pad for non-premium users. You will not be asked again, even after future updates.

Pictionary 2.0 introduces a really awesome new feature - words are now discarded after they’ve been used in the current game! That means no more repeated words in the same game! I struggled for a long time with how to achieve this, so I’m quite proud of myself for pulling it off.

Special thanks to @robric18 on Reddit for their tips on how to make this feature a reality. They’re the creator of 50 States Plus, another shortcut game available on RoutineHub.

Also in version 2.0 comes 50 additional words, for a total of 389! Finally, I’ve made a few smaller quality-of-life improvements, like a “Return to Shortcuts” button at the bottom of the Rules & How to Play screen, a new color for the shortcut, etc.

Note for Beta testers: Pictionary 2.0 may or may not work as expected on iOS/iPadOS 14 Betas. As of Beta 3, there’s a bug that causes this shortcut to present an odd notification and then freeze if a timer is running when the shortcut attempts to override it. Also, expect to see a lot of “Shortcuts pasted from” notifications. This is an intended behavior, and is part of how the shortcut discards repeated words, and part of how the shortcut knows if you’d like to open the drawing board. If Pictionary 2.0 isn’t working properly on your beta testing device, you can let me know by using the send feedback button, and I’ll do my best to fix it, if possible.

Forgot to change the version number within the shortcut, oops. Also, the performance improvements in 1.6 are so substantial that I’ve removed the actions that reset the timer if you use the drawing pad function, as they’re just not necessary anymore.

In 1.6: Performance improvements! The whole shortcut now runs faster. Now the shortcut is also much less to scroll through to get to that pesky “Add Untrusted Shortcut” Button. Additionally, the game offers to reset itself when you reach a winning score, reducing the number of taps.

Now you can draw directly inside the shortcut! Version 1.5 adds a drawing board option (you can still play the same as before if you prefer that), with full Dark Mode support! It scales for both iPhone (portrait) and iPad (landscape), although on iPhone its pretty impractical, to be honest. But it’s there if you want it. The drawing board does take a few seconds to appear, so I made it reset the timer to 60 seconds as it displays the drawing board, leveling the playing field as much as I reasonably can. (This actually gives a slight advantage to the slowest devices, as they have more time to think!) Credit to u/bamfhacker and u/vbrider on Reddit for suggesting this addition.

Oh, and I added a word. And now it stops when it tells you that you’ve won, instead of continuing for no reason.

1.41: The score is now displayed in the main menu that appears as soon as you run the shortcut, so you don’t have to manually check it anymore.

1.4: This is a big update!! Improvements have been made to nearly every aspect of this shortcut! There are, of course, more words (338 in total), but there’s more exciting stuff than that. Here’s a rundown:
- cute icons for the main menu
- your word is displayed MUCH bigger, for accessibility reasons
- you can now easily play with all teams sharing just one device if you prefer! Instructions are written in a comment near the top of the shortcut to show you how! :)
- minor clarifications to the rules
- more small tweaks for quality of life improvements

Bug fixes for update screen — sorry I keep changing this part, I think RoutineHub has an issue going on with the update links, it now seems to direct you to a plaintext page that just looks bad and doesn’t launch into shortcuts. It didn’t do this before. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
